Obituary: Peter Miller, Viridor regional manager

The funeral was held on Monday this week at the Garden of England crematorium in Sittingbourne, Kent of Peter Miller, regional manager of waste management company Viridor.

More than 200 people attended the funeral service, many coming from companies within the waste sector to pay tribute to Mr Miller who was well-respected in the industry.

Mr Miller died on February 8 2010 in hospital after a short illness. He was 61 years of age.

A statement from Viridor said: “Peter joined Viridor in 2004 through the acquisition of Thames Waste Management Ltd and managed the West Sussex PFI contract until 2009 when he was appointed Regional Manager overseeing all operations in the Sussex and Hampshire area including Beddingham, Horton and Squabb Wood landfill sites.

“He was very well known and widely respected in the industry having worked previously for Cleanaway Ltd – now part of Veolia Environmental Services – where he held a number of senior appointments.”

Sadness

Graham Warren, Viridor's South West regional director and a friend of Peter, said: “It is with extreme sadness that we heard of Peter's death. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues both within Viridor and the wider industry. Our thoughts at this time must be with his widow Sue and son David, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy”.
