The association held its first Annual General Meeting in Birmingham last week (March 2) to formally announce the results of its ballot to elect board members, who then voted unanimously to elect Mr Doran as chairman. The former Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) policy officer previously chaired the steering group which ran the Association until the board was appointed and will serve as chairman for the Association until 2013.
Mr Doran will work alongside former Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) director Ray Georgeson, who has acted as chief executive of the Association since it was formed.
Board of Directors
Also elected to the board were Ian Broxup of Aylesford Newsprint, Nick Brown of Coca-Cola Enterprises, Eric Randall of Bryson Recycling, Craig Robinson of UPM, Jonathan Short of Eco Plastics, Paul Vanston of the Kent Waste Partnershp and Simon Weston of Smurfit Kappa Recycling.
Mr Doran, said: I am grateful for the confidence shown in me by my fellow members and delighted to continue to serve as the Associations chairman. I would particularly like to thank colleagues who offered themselves for election but were this time unsuccessful. Having an election for the first full board of the Association is a healthy sign and I look forward to the continued interest and input of all members as the Association develops its work in the next year.
The Resource Association was set up in November 2011, with the aim of giving a voice to members of the reprocessing and recycling industry.
At its launch event, the Association claimed it would focus on promoting the quality and usability of secondary resources as well as highlighting the reprocessing and recycling industries contribution to carbon reduction, employment and economic development (see letsrecycle.com story).
The group also said that it would be advocating a UK-wide adoption of the Scottish Governments interim carbon measurement system and that it would promote the development of End of Waste status for high quality secondary resources.
