Regeneration and development programme “Aire Valley – Leeds” has provided development grants to recyclers WasteCare and T Shea and Son and business support to Timberpak and Oates Environmental.
The programme has 655,000 available to support businesses in the region, with a maximum grant of 3,000 or if a project brings wider benefit to the area Aire Valley – Leeds can provide 50% of the capital costs.
Ben Palmer, business advisor at Aire Valley – Leeds, said: “We are proud that the recycling industry is booming in the area and are actively encouraging similar companies to join us. We can offer grant-aid, help with recruitment and other assistance to businesses.”
Access
Waste management company WasteCare, which specialises in recycling hazardous materials such as chemical residue and IT equipment, used its grant to install a new CCTV security system. The company is based on Cross Green Industrial Estate and uses an internet based system for its clients to track their waste.
Bob Taylor, financial director of Waste Care, said: “We are soon to fit satellite navigation to our vehicles so that customers can locate them and accurately predict the time of collections. Aire Valley – Leeds is a great location for our business, it is central and has great access advantages.”
Aggregates
Also based at Cross Green, T Shea and Son used a development grant to expand its aggregate recycling business and now offers a skip service to the construction industry. The company reclaims waste brick and concrete from building and demolition sites in Leeds which it then crushes and screens for resale as a secondary aggregate.
Managing director of T Shea and Son, Tom Shea said: “The skip side of the business has been trading for just six months but is already a great success, therefore the business grant has been a big help.”
He added: “We are in a great position to take advantage of the redevelopment boom happening in the area at the moment.”
Other recycling businesses located in Aire Valley – Leeds include wood recycler Timberpak and oil recycler Oates Environmental.
