Established in 2011 by Zero Waste Scotland, Revolve aims to “foster the growth of the reuse sector” in Scotland and promote the adoption of reused goods.
The new feature has been designed to provide support to a wide spectrum of businesses, from new start-ups to well-established enterprises. It offers guidance and training opportunities for employees and volunteers at all levels.
Additionally, it provides “optional auditing and certification services for businesses seeking external validation that they meet established standards”. There will also be the opportunity for businesses to attend webinars and in person events.
Revolve’s support is available to anyone involved in handling second-hand goods, whether for reuse, repair, refurbishment, or upcycling. This includes various business types such as not-for-profits, sole traders, public sector entities, and private businesses. The resources cater to both online and brick-and-mortar businesses.
We want to normalise re-use and help increase shoppers’ confidence
- Samantha Moir, Zero Waste Scotland
‘Normalise’
Zero Waste Scotland’s community support manager, Samantha Moir, said: “We want to normalise re-use and help increase shoppers’ confidence in buying second-hand, while empowering reuse businesses to reach their full potential. Around four-fifths of our carbon footprint in Scotland comes from the goods, materials, and services we use, and the reuse sector is pivotal in keeping items in use for longer and reducing the manufacture of new goods.
She added: “Consumer perception of second-hand has greatly shifted in recent years, and making sure customers have access to trusted, reliable reuse stores is key to turning the tide further. We want to see second-hand become the first choice for shoppers, and the launch of the new Revolve Reuse Knowledge Hub will help reuse businesses gain the skills and knowledge to make that happen.”
