Previously, Mr Miller was managing director of the Waste Control Division of RMC (UK) – which included Hales Waste Control – until it was sold to Severn Trent in June 2003 (see letsrecycle.com story).

He oversaw activities including landfill, waste recovery, tyre recovery and recycling as well as commercial vehicle repair. The RMC waste division had a turnover of 120 million and employed 1,200 people.

Commenting on the appointment, Wastelink chairman Eric Priestley said: “Brian's experience of so many aspects of waste management and recycling will be of great benefit to us in managing the continuing growth of our business. We are confident that he will make an immediate and important contribution to our activities.”

In his new role at Wastelink, Mr Miller will be responsible for providing outsourced waste management, compliance and recycling services for about 700 customers. His new job will see him based at Wastelink's head office in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.

Mr Miller said: “Wastelink is the leading company in its sector of the industry and I am delighted to have the opportunity to help shape its future development. Key factors will be continuing emphasis on customer care, operational focus and the development of our team.”

Wastelink has been without a chief executive since Fiona Lowry resigned in January (see letsrecycle.com story).
