Wastelink chief executive resigns

Fiona Lowry has resigned from her post as chief executive of Wastelink Services – operator of the Wastepack packaging waste compliance scheme – after less than five months in the job.

The sudden departure comes in the wake of discussions about a possible management buyout of the company.

A statement from Wastelink said: “Fiona Lowry has left the company. She proposed to the board that she might lead a management and employee buyout of the company. However, this did not work out and so Fiona has decided to seek new challenges and resign from the company.”

A management buy-out of the company would seem to have been an obvious possibility for Ms Lowry who in a previous position had been involved in a high-level buy-out of a BBC transmission service. It is unclear what the main owners of Wastelink, Duke Street Capital, would have thought of the idea of such a move for the company.

Wastelink said that it has a strong management team and continued to grow in the integrated services area. Meanwhile, a speedy appointment of a new chief executive appears unlikely. Wastelink said: “It is much too early to say how we will approach succession – we do have a strong team in place.”
