Waste Services Group, based at Bramham, near Wetherby, Yorkshire said that materials handling contract forms part of Tarmac Group’s “commitment to recycling and waste minimisation and will see Waste Services Group providing specialist advice on best practice and regulatory impact.”
The waste company operates six service centres in Billingham (Teesside), Bramham (West Yorkshire), Newark (Nottinghamshire), Stevenage (Hertfordshire), Manchester and Wolverhampton. For the Tarmac contract it appears that it will be buying in services although Waste Services does run some of its own vehicles.
Waste Services Group’s agreement with Tarmac Group adds to the waste management and industrial services contracts it has with Syngenta, Rhodia, Chirex, Shell, ICI, Astra Zeneca, Croda and Corus.
Limpia Ltd
Founded just 10 years ago, Waste Services Group was the subject of a 7m management buy-out in 2001 backed by LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds TSB. Known then as Limpia Ltd, in 2001 the company was a waste disposal company with offices in Stockton, Knottingley and Wolverhampton.
Since then, said a statement from the company, Lloyds TSB has worked with Waste Services Group’s management team, led by chief executive Jonathan Morris, to deliver year-on-year sales growth. Currently Waste Services employs “60 permanent staff and a further 60 temporary workers”, and forecasts revenues of 12m for the current financial year.
Ian Wray, business development director of Waste Services Group, said: “This is a fantastic win for the business with one of the industry’s biggest names. Forward thinking businesses like the Tarmac Group are looking for innovative waste management solutions that allow them to tap into a pool of specialist knowledge and experience.
“Unlike other players in our market, Waste Services Group doesn’t operate disposal facilities, leaving us free to select the most suitable and cost-effective disposal option for our customers’ waste.”
Nationwide
“Our position is particularly strong in light of the EU Landfill Directive, which is forcing other operators to invest heavily in waste disposal technology and facilities to keep up with legislative change. Our skills base and ability to provide nationwide coverage are also helping us strengthen our position in the market.”
Cathryn Hunt, purchasing manger at Tarmac Group, said: “We needed to partner with someone who was as passionate and committed to safe and responsible materials handling as we are, and Waste Services Group have demonstrated that to us all along.
“They have an excellent track record in health and safety and are one of the industry’s few innovators when it comes to finding waste disposal and recycling solutions.”
