Viridor takes over two Veolia ES sites in South West

At least two depots providing commercial waste and recycling services in the South West of England are now operating under Viridor ownership rather than their previous owner, Veolia Environmental Services.

Neither company has disclosed details of a transaction which is thought to have taken place at the end of 2011 with Viridor acquiring Veolia sites in Devon and Somerset.

Veolia's South West commercial waste and recycling activities are now being handled by Viridor

At least two of Veolias commercial waste and recycling sites are involved: at the Heathfield Industrial Estate, Newton Abbot, Devon and the Poole Industrial Estate, Wellington, Somerset. Both sites confirmed they are now operating as Viridor and it is understood that former Veolia customers are now being served by Viridor. The depots are thought to cover large areas with Newton Abbot serving much of Devon.

Neither Viridor or Veolia ES would comment on the change of ownership or the number of customers involved on the business waste side.

Presence

The deal is seen as strengthening Viridors presence in the south-west, one of its key UK territories where it has a strong logistics and infrastructure base.

Veolia ES now appears to have a reduced commercial waste presence in the region although it does have municipal waste contracts. The company still operates commercial waste services from Bristol.

On the major infrastructure side, as with Viridor, Veolia was not shortlisted for the South West Devon PFI contract but Viridor does have the disposal and treatment contract for Somerset.
