Powered by a DL06KB 6-cylinder diesel engine, the manufacturer says that the machine offers increased digging power, greater lifting capacity and faster working cycles with improved fuel efficiency to reduce costs.

Cooling capacity has also been increased by 10-15% compared to the previous generation machine, and includes a new floating boom system for easy levelling and finishing work.

The vehicle also features a reinforced frame, boom and undercarriage for greater durability.

Lehmann Aviation unveils landfill drone

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturer Lehmann Aviation has produced LA300, an automatic drone which takes still aerial images and video for landfill sites.

Launched by hand, the miniature UAV helps calculate waste volume from the air at a range of 15km, as well as offering an alternative to ground-level measurements.

It is also one of the first drones to use a mobile phone technology for professional imaging, implementing the Nokia 1020 camera. The flight path can be programmed from a Windows 8 tablet, which transmits data to the drone via Wi-Fi. After 30 minutes the LA300 will land automatically at a chosen location.

Lehmann began deliveries of the drones at the end of October 2013, and says that regular upgrades will be made available.

Landia GasMix at heart of Cory AD plant

Aerator manufacturer Landia has provided the mixing system for Cory Environmentals first anaerobic digestion plant in North Somerset.

Comprising three 18.5kw chopper pumps and solids reduction, the GasMix system generates up to 500kw of energy per hour at the Weston-super-Mare site and exports it to the National Grid.

The Cory AD facility has the capacity to handle 12,000 tonnes of food waste per annum with an estimated 7,500 tonnes to be sourced from North Somerset as part of a seven-year waste treatment contract (see letsrecycle.com story).

Landia chopper pumps have been installed at Cory sites in the past, including eight other process and storage tanks, where they perform a combination of process mixing and transfer functions.

Alistair Holl, Corys director of Resource Management, said: We are very proud of our first AD facility, for which our team were main contractors, as well as plant and site designers, achieving energy production just 18 months after planning consent was gained.

This includes us recognising the importance of a highly effective and ultra-reliable mixing system, which is why weve chosen Landias GasMix. It mixes the digester throughout at a consistent temperature, which will optimise our gas generation.

Dunmow adds JCB loader to fleet

Essex-based recycling firm Dunmow Waste Management has added the JCB 457 HT Wastemaster wheeled loader to its fleet of vehicles.

The machine, which is equipped with super high-lift loader arms, a toe-tip bucket and SG Revolution sold tyres, will handle waste material collected at Dunmows headquarters in Chelmsford.

The loader also includes a full rear radar and weighing system, as well as fire suppression and an optional ZF transmission with lock-up torque converter.

Dunmow co-director Edward Barnes said the vehicles Stage IIIB/Tier 4 interim engine was a factor in the companys decision to replace the firms previous 456 loader.

He said: JCB is a multi-billion pound business but they are always interested in talking to us and finding out about our company. They are interested in what we do.

Edwards Recycling purchases Volvo L45G loader

Waste paper recycler Edwards Recycling Ltd has purchased a Volvo L45G wheeled loader to ramp up production at its materials recycling facility in Barking, Essex.

The vehicle, which replaces a tele-handler, will process 1000 tonnes of waste paper each week at the site, which operates two shift 18 hour days and half a day on Saturdays.

Simon Edwards, managing director of the firm, said: The machine gave us untold problems with tyre punctures and material getting trapped in the internal parts of the machine creating too much downtime

We concluded that to increase our productivity on site, a wheeled loader correctly specified for the application was the way forward and looked to Volvo for the solution.

The loader, which meets Stage IIIB compliance, includes optical long boom, hydraulic quick hitch, and tip bucket featuring twin hydraulic top clamps. It is also fitted with L5 foam filled tyres to overcome puncture issues.
