Waste firm turns to ‘reuse’ of its own vehicles with RVS
Bakers Waste has bought three more remanufactured vehicles from Refuse Vehicle Solutions bringing the total bought over the past three years to nine.
The company has just taken delivery of two of its own remanufactured vehicles, which have a Mercedes Econic chassis and a Geesink Vulture GPM iii body with bin lift.
Due to be delivered later this month (June) is a remanufactured Phoenix 2 body with Beta Trade binlift, on a new Mercedes Antos chassis.
RVS have worked with Bakers Waste to extend the life of vehicles, as well as provide minor and major refurbishments, and technical support. RVS says it can provide most configurations of vehicle.
Bakers Waste managing director Paul Baker said: “We need to be able to respond to changes in customer demand quickly. We can’t hang around for months waiting for a new vehicle to be delivered and we also need to keep an eye on our capital spend.
“RVS can turn vehicles around quickly and cost effectively, and they offer different options so there is always a way to achieve what we need to keep our fleet running at an optimum level.”

Dennis Eagle launches remote fault scanner
A system that scans the health of vehicles remotely to find faults, order spare parts, and set up an engineer appointments, has been launched by Dennis Eagle.
In the event of an issue developing, the DennisConnect system automatically transmits fault codes to the company’s technical support centre with the vehicle location. The fault is then diagnosed, spare parts ordered and the closest engineer identified and sent to respond.
The system will be fitted as standard to all new Elite chassis and Olympus bodies. Dennis Eagle hopes the programme will help it identify defect trends, introduce preventative programmes, and provide better maintenance scheduling.
The company added that DennisConnect will also work as a platform for other operational programmes such as its Waste Operator module. This offers full vehicle tracking down to street level and management reports for all operator functions.
Geoff Rigg, aftermarket director for Dennis Eagle, said the telematics system would deliver “tangible benefits, reducing vehicle downtime and keeping fleets running as efficiently as possible.”

Skip operators to get wireless controls
Broughton Engineering has introduced wireless remote controls to improve safety for skip operators and the general public.
The remote control allows the operator to control the skip as it is being loaded and unloaded. Instead of standing close to the cab (where the controls are usually positioned) the operator can stand away from the skip, and vehicle. This alone greatly improves safety for the operator.
However, the remote system also gives the operator an opportunity to select a place to stand that gives them the best line of sight, particularly in an environment where there may be visual obstructions. This latter point enhances safety for both the operator and the general public.
The remote control will be available on Broughton’s Power-Reach® PR18 skip loader. Boughton Group Sales and Marketing Director Steve Price said his company worked hard to, “provide operating benefits and improve active and passive safety in, on or around the vehicle.”
