Untha launches mobile waste shredder

Machinery manufacturer Untha has launched an electrically-driven mobile waste shredder, which the company claims is the first of its kind in the world.

Untha said its new mobile waste shredder is the first of its kind

The XR mobil-e has the same design features as Untha’s static XR shredder, yet it has been updated to include an on-board auxiliary power pack in order to make it easy to move around a production facility and plugged back in. Untha claims that the machine is the first of its kind to shred with a low power electric drive.

Features

The new machine is capable of processing materials including municipal solid waste (MSW), commercial and industrial waste (C&I), construction and demolition waste (C&D), wood and other bulky wastes.

This can then be processed to produce fuels for the waste to energy (WtE), cement, gasifier and biomass industries. A series of interchangeable screens and cutters enables the shredder to be configured according to the output specification, which the company said can achieve homogenous particles of 30-400mm.

Additional features include an adjustable exit conveyor and ferrous magnet and an electro-mechanic, rather than diesel-hydraulic- drive, to reduce the risk of fires.

Project

The XR mobil-e has been created from a nine month project, which saw the company run trials in Austria, Germany, and the UK. Peter Streinik, head of business unit waste, Untha, said the tests revealed throughputs of up to 70 tonnes per hour and machine reconfiguration to handle different material streams in two hours.

Mr Steinik added: “For more than forty years, we have continued to innovate, however revolutionary our designs. So we continued to talk to the market to uncover what further operational challenges we could address. The need for a robust, flexible and efficient mobile waste shredder was apparent.

“These trials enabled us to perfect elements of the technology prior to the market launch.”

Noise

On the topic of sound levels, Mr Steinik said: “Aside from the more obvious performance benefits, we’ve also received fantastic feedback about the emission-free, incredibly quiet operation of the XR mobil-e.

“With noise levels as low as 80 dB(A) this protects operator wellbeing and ensures minimal disruption to neighbouring communities. It also facilitates extended operating hours which results in increased throughputs and plant profitability.”
