UKFT seeking feedback on textiles EPR and recycling

The UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT) is calling for feedback from its members as it plans to raise a series of topics with the government – including extended producer responsibility for textiles and developing “industry-led” national textile recycling infrastructure.

The association has said that members feedback is “essential in helping to shape the policies and decisions that impact our trading environment”.

UKFT has identified four key areas to raise during upcoming meetings with the government. It is seeking feedback on whether it has missed anything and is looking for specific examples of how these areas have impacted its members.

The four areas are:

  • International Business
  • Skills and Education
  • Sustainability and Innovation (including developing an EPR scheme and national textile recycling infrastructure)
  • UK Manufacturing

Members can email info@ukft.org with any issues they want to raise or to provide examples to support UKFT’s work.

According to a recent report from UKFT and Oxford Economics, the UK fashion and textile industry directly supports a £62 billion contribution to UK GDP, 1.3 million jobs across the country and raises more than £23 billion in tax revenue.

The UKFT has said that it campaigns on a wide range of issues on behalf of the whole UK fashion and textile supply chain, encompassing designers, brands and retailers, through to manufacturers, suppliers, educators and beyond. A summary of its key priorities and focus areas can be found online.
