TEG to provide 2m in-vessel composter for Norfolk firm

Preston-based TEG Environmental is to provide 2 million worth of in-vessel composting equipment for a Norfolk poultry company.

Banham Compost Ltd, a subsidiary of Attleborough-based Banham Poultry, has placed an order for TEG's Silo-Cage in-vessel system to process about 35,000 tonnes of animal by-products each year.

” The order is subject to planning permissions but the site is ideal given it has existing planning permission for other waste operations.“
– Mick Fishwick, TEG

TEG, which has been listed on the Alternative Investments Market since mid-2004, will provide a system using 56 Silo-Cages housed in a self-contained building to process the waste.

The Silo-Cage system treats material in a continuous flow over a period of up to 14 days, subject to temperatures sufficient to render the animal by-products harmless. Resulting compost can then be matured for between eight and 21 days before use.

The system is designed to treat material so that it complies with the Animal By-Products Regulation, which requires certain treatment standards for raw meat and fish wastes.

Review
Commenting on the contract gain, Mick Fishwick, chief executive of TEG Environmental said: “I am delighted that TEG has been selected by Banham as the sole technology provider following an exhaustive review of competing technologies.

“The order is subject to planning permissions but the site is ideal given it has existing planning permission for other waste operations,” Mr Fishwick said.

TEG Environmental has previously been contracted to provide a smaller version of its Silo-Cage in-vessel composting system for use in the city of Swansea (see letsrecycle.com story).
