Slough plastics recycling plant hit by fire

A plastic recycling company, owned by Slough Heat and Power, suffered a fire last night at its site in Slough.

And fire officers are reportedly still on site at this moment because it is unsure how the fire was started.

The fire service was contacted at around 7.30pm last night, and a spokeswoman for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said that officers were still fighting the blaze early this morning.

Fibre Fuel Ltd's facility, which is located on the Slough Trading Estate on Ajax Road, contained baled plastic and paper.

Eight pumps were present on site at the height of the fire, the spokeswoman added that four were still on site when the last report was filed earlier today.

Under control

And the spokeswoman told letsrecycle.com: “The fire is now under control, but officers are likely to remain on site for the rest of the day because the fire is thought to be of doubtful origin.”

No-one was evacuated from the nearby area, however the fire brigade insisted that local residents kept their windows and doors shut.

Dr Andrew Ellis, deputy managing director at Slough Heat and Power, said: “The fire service very quickly had the site under control and they are currently getting to the end of their operation.

“There were a few hundred tonnes of plastic and paper bales, nothing was salvaged. I would like to point out that the warehouse is nowhere near the power station itself,” he added.
