The acquisition includes waste management facilities in Scotland and South East England, along with an established security shredding business based in East London, mustdestroy.com.

Through the deal, Shanks will take on two materials recycling facilities (MRFs) in Edinburgh with 60,000 tonnes of sorting capacity each year and a MRF in Aberdeen that has 30,000 tonnes of annual capacity.
The acquisition will also bring with it 38 vehicles and a significant customer base, with Shanks stating that Hannay’s boasts 1,700 customers.

The company said all 110 staff at John W Hannay would transfer to Shanks.
Commenting on the acquisition, Shanks Waste Management Ltd managing director Ian Goodfellow said: “This acquisition further demonstrates our commitment to increased recycling and diverting material from landfill.
“The geographic locations of Hannay’s sites are an excellent fit with our existing businesses in Scotland and East London and there is an obvious synergy through an increased recycling capacity and our existing customer base in these regions,” Mr Goodfellow added.
Hannay’s chairman, Tony Abram, said: “This disposal now allows us to further develop our Irish and overseas businesses.”
