The table ranks Britain’s top 100 private companies with the fastest-growing sales over the latest three years and is compiled by networking events firm Fast Track. Blue Group will receive their award at a ceremony held at Richard Branson’s Oxfordshire home in May.

The firm distributes machinery with a specialised focus on spare parts and service nationwide. Its after sales area found success in the recent economic downturn as a number of businesses chose to repair rather than replace existing machinery.

Blue Group chairman Pat McGeary joined up with Brian Maxwell, Eugene Donnelly and Austin Carey to form the company in 2004 and they now plan further acquisitions along with additional OEM distribution partnerships in growing markets.

Mr McGeary said: This award is a huge recognition of the hard work put in by everyone within the Group and also the continuing loyalty of our customers. Through these challenging times we have strived to become more efficient whilst improving our service and product offering to our clients. We are delighted to have received such a prestigious award and look forward to driving the business forward in the coming years.

The company claims that businesses CO2 emissions and heating bills can be reduced by as much as 100,000 a year, depending on feed volumes, through a process involving pyrolysis and the gasification of waste.

The ST compact system can produce up to 250kg per hour and generate heat output of as much as 700kWth, according to DPS. It also accepts around 85% of the European waste catalogue of materials with no pre-treatment required, says the company.

Pyrolysis involves the thermal decomposition of organic material through heat, which separates the energy rich carbon and hydrogen from the waste and also decomposes the waste to form a synthetic gas (syngas). The syngas can then be combusted to ensure small pollutant particles are destroyed, according to DPS.

Neil Young, managing director at DPS Global, said: Incineration has always been the main alternative to landfill when dealing with hazardous and difficult to deal with wastes. However, we believe that there is now a real alternative through the wide scale deployment of compact pyrolysis waste treatment systems, which will help the private and public sectors reduce and control their waste costs, as well as significantly contributing to their Corporate Social Responsibility targets and obligations.

Jarshire unveils dual tie baling system

Slough-based waste systems manufacturer Jarshire Limited, in partnership with US maufacturer IPS Balers, has announced its Dual Wire Tying system for baling waste.

It is possible to retrofit the technology to any make of two ram baler, according to Jarshire. Also, configurations are offered for both overhead gantry mounted systems with rollers or for those that are cantilever floor mounted.

In either case, the units are entirely mounted to a bottom plate either hanging from the top or supported from the bottom. Nothing needs to be removed during operation to change from wire to plastic, according to the company, while it is also not necessary to disconnect any of the wire, plastic strapping, hoses, or electrical components.

Nick Jobson, Jarshire director, said: This is an important development. IPS already supplies us with our standard wire tie systems but increasing numbers of our customers are asking about dual tying utilising both plastic and traditional wire. The Jarshire/IPS system will allow customers who want to bale RDF and recyclable material to only need one machine to bale all their waste.

Spares are available from Jarshires Halifax warehouse and the company also provides service back-up for the system.

UK distributor for Tana Shark slow speed shredder

Midlands-based recycling company Warwick Ward Machinery has begun distributing waste shredders in the UK, which are manufactured by Tana of Finland for general, wood, plastics and tyre waste.

Designed for use on all varieties of waste, the Tana Shark slow speed shredders features include a side wall opening door that can cut the time lost through blockage, and a patented swing frame system.

The Tana Shark can be used to pre-shred and also includes a single shaft rotor with bolt on reversible knives and interchangeable counter knives. With optional interchangeable screens it can produce a consistent particle size of between 500mm and 50mm.

Donald Ward, director of Warwick Ward, said: We were very impressed by the end product and the ability to change this to your desired particle size. We were also surprised at the ease and simplicity of the machine in regards to the counter knifes and teeth being changed. It has a side opening wall door that enables you to access the rotor direct to remove any unwanted material keeping downtime to a minimum. The amount of fuel required also played a part and the ability to decrease the engine torque and speed to save on fuel also influenced our decision.
