The MRF, which takes waste from Milton Keynes and other nearby local authorities, suffered a fire in April of this year (see letsrecycle.com story).
” The plant will be able to cover the full range of materials taken by the previous plant “
– Richard Cutts
It was originally scheduled to be out for around 16 to 24 weeks but is now not expected back in action until March 2006.
Cutts Brothers are set to completely replace the plant with new technology from German manufacturer Stadler.
Richard Cutts, director of Cutts Brothers, said: “The previous plant was thoroughly destroyed. The only remaining equipment is the bag splitter and the feed from the splitter which will not be replaced.
“The rest of the plant will be put together as part of a joint project between ourselves and Stadler. It will be the first time the company has put together this sort of plant in the UK, although they are well known in Europe. I fully believe that this is the way forward for MRF design in the UK,” he added.
Mr Cutts also said that Cutts Brothers would opt to use Stadler's design for any plants that the company sought to run in the future.
Alterations
The plant will mostly be replaced like-for-like with several alterations made to the site. The disk screen, which was the last piece of equipment added to the previous facility in August 2004, is to be replaced by a ballistic separator.

Mr Cutts said: “The plant will be able to cover the full range of materials taken by the previous plant. A provision has also been made to include glass in the collections further down the road.”
A provisional date of March 15 2006 has been set for the plant to return to action, this includes testing and commissioning of the site.
