London urged to “jump” into food waste collections

Councils in London were last night urged to “jump” into introducing food waste collections, but concerns were expressed about possible planning and market barriers.

Speaking at a local authority networking event yesterday, a council officer from Preston, which has already been running a food waste scheme, advised London boroughs that they should follow suit.

More needs to be done to make markets for this material
