The sale is the latest addition to the portfolio of companies owned by Trevor Heathcote and forms a ‘natural progression’ for FGS Organics’ compost solutions, it has claimed.
Mr Heathcote’s Kent-based group of companies include Countrystyle, FGS Agri, FGS Plant and Water Direct.
Based in Cambridgeshire, the EnVar in-vessel and open windrow composting facility processes 105,000 tonnes of green waste and food waste per year, both commingled and separated at source.
The acquisition is expected to increase FGS’ Organics composting capacity significantly. During peak times in the summer, the Woodhurst site can regularly receive up to 900 tonnes of organic waste per day.
Kiverco
Last year, EnVar completed a project with equipment specialist Kiverco to produce a quality, PAS 100 & COP certified soil conditioner for the agriculture and horticultural markets (see letsrecycle.com story).
With the acquisition, contracted and non-contracted arrangements for the intake of waste and supply of compost will continue to operate as usual with staff at the site to experience “little change” according to FGS Organics.
Colin Speller, managing director of the ADAS Group of Companies, explained that the sale would allow the Group to concentrate on its “core purpose” to secure food and provide “specialist knowledge” to the industry.
He added: “We believe that FGS Organics is a highly suitable owner of the EnVar business that is well positioned to develop and grow the business to the benefit of clients, staff and suppliers.”
FGS
Commenting on the deal, Mr Heathcote, chairman of FGS Organics, said: “We are pleased to announce the acquisition of EnVar Composting, which will further strengthen FGS Organics’ existing organic recycling operations throughout the South and East of England.
“We look forward to working with EnVar Composting’s customers, ensuring an efficient operation for both waste providers and compost end users.”
