The eddy current separator system, provided by Eriez Magnetics, includes an Eriez OBM vibratory feeder in line with a 2m wide RevX-E eccentric eddy current separator (ECS) unit together with a modular magnetic drum to remove ferrous metals prior to the ECS. The machine can process up to 40 tonnes of material per hour.

Commenting on the equipment, Adie Mason, wood sector manager for SITA UK, said: We supply a high grade, waste wood fuel so it is essential that our product is free from contaminants. Our requirement was very specific, and so were our deadlines as the equipment delivery had to coincide with the overall installation of the production sites. The equipment was delivered to deadline and we have been impressed with the high standard of after-sales support.

The machine was purchased from Coatbridge-based Scotia Plant Ltd and replaces the Stage IIIA machine which was introduced in 2006/07. The firm said the new plant offers several improvements over the older model and is designed to reduce costs through better controls and productivity as well as fuel optimisation.

Paul Curran, fleet manager for development and regeneration at the council, said: The new Doosan DX140W-3 excavator meets the required specification for the applications at the Waste and Recycling Centre and replaces a fixed elevated cab machine. In use constantly, the new Doosan excavator offers the durability and reliability required for work at the facility.

“Our purchase decision was also influenced by good references we received and checked out for Doosan machines working at Inverclyde Council and in privately owned businesses in the area.

Shredder boosts BPR’s destruction of confidential waste

Waste management specialist BPR Group has invested in a shredder in a bid to improve the scope and security of its confidential paper destruction service.

The company has installed the UNTHA RS100 shredder at its Rainham facility in Greater London, which enables BPR to bring its shredding operation in-house rather than contract it out to a third party. The shredder enables BPR to process five to six tonnes of waste per hour.

The machine draws paper into its main cutters, where it is both pre-shredded and re-shredded in a single pass. Material that does not fall through the screen is transferred to the secondary cutters before being fed back into the cutting chamber for re-shredding. It can be fitted with different sized cutters and screening options.

Alan Harvey, UNTHA UKs business development manager for the South, said; Hard-wearing cutting systems and self-cleaning contra shears heighten the machines reliability, reduce the amount of ongoing maintenance and translate into a long machine life expectancy. In addition to its throughput capability, this slow speed reliable shredder with its four shaft technology boasts low levels of noise, vibration and dust, and as a result has a much lower risk of a spark-induced fire or dust explosion. This machine has set the industry standard for this type of shredding. Theres no doubt that with the RS100, all BPRs confidential waste is in safe and secure hands.

Twintec provides new floor for Poole transfer station

Industrial flooring firm Twintec has installed a new floor at Poole borough councils waste transfer and civic amenity site.

Twintec used Sikafloor 1 MetalTop for the 1,312m concrete floor which was separated into a number of tipping bays. Twintec laid a 250mm deep jointless steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) ground floor slab suspended on piles. Sikafloor 1 Metaltop was then power troweled into the wet concrete to a depth of 3mm in order to create a surface ready to cope with the daily operational demands of the facility.

Nick Grounds, Sika flooring national account manager, said: The Sikafloor MetalTop system produces a surface 20 times more abrasion resistant than power floated concrete, far exceeding the severe / special abrasion resistance criteria of BS8204. It also provides anti-static properties, is dust-free and resistant to oils, chemicals and solvents.
