Scottish waste and recycling firm NWH Group has announced the appointment of Gavin Money as chief operating officer, effective from the end of September.

(l-r): David Harris, Circularity Scotland chief executive and Gavin Money, Biffa’s DRS operations director at the DRS Motherwell site

Gavin Money will join the company from Biffa where he was DRS operations director. He worked closely with the Scottish scheme which was recently pushed back again to October 2025, in line with the rest of the UK. The scheme administrator was placed into administration.

Mr Money has also previously worked with the South Ayrshire Waste and Environment Trust and construction company McLaughlin & Harvey.

NWH explained that “Gavin brings with him strong commercial skills supported by operational insight in engineering and resource management environments”.

Mark Williams, chief executive at The NWH Group, said: “What makes Gavin the correct fit for our business is not only his expertise within our field but his valuable experience from other industries, which will bring a fresh perspective to our operations. With his unique insights, Gavin will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our company.

“This is an exciting journey, and we’re looking forward to Gavin joining the team and being part of it.”

Responsibilities

Working closely with the NWH’s operational lead, Group General Manager, Dougie Neill, Mr Money will be responsible for both the sales and operations teams, overseeing their strategic direction and growth.

To further bolster the senior team and complement Gavin’s arrival, NWH is also recruiting for a commercial sales manager. This crucial role will be responsible for leading the new business sales team and will report directly to Gavin.

NWH Group is headquartered in Midlothian, central Scotland, and notes that it services all of Scotland and the north east of England from 10 sites. Materials handled include glass, food, dry mixed recycling, wood, incinerator bottom ash, washed sands, gravels and cardboard.

In October 2021, the business was restructured into one trading entity – NWH Group Ltd – having been formerly known as NWH Waste Services Ltd. This was explained as the foundation to move to one operational system, to drive further automation and integration.
