The campaign organisers have announced that the third week-long recycling campaign is to be held this year from June 5, with “high-profile celebrity” support promised.

WRAP is seeking to bring in more corporate sponsorships by stressing the benefits they would stand to gain with links to the Big Recycle campaign, which forms part of WRAP's national “Recycle Now” campaign.
Julie Brown, head of public relations for the Waste & Resources Action Programme, said: “We're aiming to attract even more participants this year, to ensure that the campaign is bigger and better than ever. We're particularly keen to hear from sponsors at this stage.”
Last year's campaign involved over 400 local authorities across the UK, with a range of events staged to highlight the importance of recycling, from fashion shows to music concerts.
Backed
For the first time last year, the campaign was backed by supermarkets Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys as well as materials recycling organisations British Glass, Corus, Novelis, PaperChain and Recoup.
With Olympic rower Sir Matthew Pinsent providing a celebrity face to the campaign (see letsrecycle.com story), organisers say it achieved 530 pieces of media coverage in the UK including items on national breakfast television and radio, although there were 90 million “media opportunities” created by the week-long series of events.

Ms Brown said: “The reaction of local authorities, members of the public, retailers and the media to last year's campaign was phenomenal. It helped create a huge surge of interest in household recycling.”
