The Southampton-based commercial, marine and hazardous waste specialist has won a 30-month contract to provide recycling and waste collections to the University of Brighton.
The announcement comes just five months after the 8 million company was acquired by Sevenoaks-based waste management firm Verdant Group plc (see letsrecycle.com story).
Running from last month, the new six-day-a-week service is being rolled out at campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings where new wheeled bins have been provided to collect cans, plastic, paper, card and glass.
Campaign
Waste Services UK will work with Brighton university to introduce an extensive recycling campaign to make students and staff aware of the new service. This adds to the company's existing contracts with Southampton, Bournemouth and Portsmouth universities.
Waste Services managing director Roger Edwards said: “Since Verdant acquired the Waste Services Business, we've been following a number of new business leads. We're delighted that the University of Brighton has chosen us as their service provider.”
Gavin Ford of estate & facilities management at Brighton university said: “We appointed Waste Services to this role because they impressed us with their proven track record in the education sector, their commitment to improving efficiencies and their convincing belief that the service can lift recycling rates.”
He added: “Like any other business, especially one which is 'home' to over 20,000 people, it is imperative that we address environmental practices such as waste management and reduction.”
