Claiming it has been “extremely difficult” for many businesses to find a viable WEEE collection service, W&S, which collected over two million items of waste electronic electrical equipment in 2008, has now rolled out the collection service across England, Scotland and Wales.
The company's commercial director, Tony Knowles, explained: “It's very simple. It just takes a single phone call and a bag can be delivered the next day.
“The bags are light and easy to store but have the ideal capacity for WEEE. Collection can be arranged at the customer's convenience with all WEEE then going for treatment and recycling,” he added.
Issue
The issue of B2B WEEE recycling was highlighted in BERR's consultation on revisions to the WEEE Regulations, published in December 2008, (see letsrecycle.com story), which stated that levels of non-household WEEE recycling were “disappointing”.
And, Environment Agency figures have shown that just 5% of EEE being sold to businesses is recycled according to the requirements of the regulations.
At the same time, as part of its review of the Duty of Care, Defra is considering whether the Waste Transfer Note requirements for business waste should be reviewed to make it illegal to dispose of WEEE with general waste.
