WRAP EU will initially focus on tackling food waste across the hospitality and food service sector and will later expand to focus on sustainable fashion and plastic pollution.
The environmental action NGO will be recruiting for two new roles to be part of the WRAP EU team.
The official launch took place yesterday (28 January 2025) in Paris and was hosted by WRAP CEO Harriet Lamb and WRAP’s director of impact growth Dr Richard Swannell.
The launch was attended by IFWC programme members including Accor Group, BWH Hotels France, Club Med, Compass Group, Elior, Kitro, Louvre Hotels Group, Leanpath, Orbisk, Sodexo and Winnow.
Members of the IFWC now represent around 60% of the EU catering market and around 15% of the hotels market. They are working to achieve a 50% reduction in food waste by 2030.
Harriet Lamb, CEO WRAP, said: “Tackling climate change requires global collaboration and nurturing roots in the EU allows WRAP to influence, inform and invest in key programmes that will bring circular living into every boardroom and every home.
“WRAP has a strong track record collaborating with partners to tackle food waste across the EU, as does IFWC – so this is a perfect teaming-up to increase our collective impact. I am delighted to once again have WRAP firmly on the EU map.”
Didier Sandoz, president of the IFWC, who was also attended the launch, added: “We are thrilled to join forces with WRAP and forge ahead with our work tackling food waste and loss. WRAP EU will allow this to flourish and grow. We can increase the impact we have through this partnership and reduce emissions linked to food waste across the continent, as part of the global push to halve food waste.”
WRAP now has a presence in the UK, EU, Asia-Pacific (based in Australia) and the Americas (based in Washington, USA).
The IFWC programme will join the Global Network of Food Pacts which recently met with the Global Network of Plastics Pacts in Mexico to discuss future collaboration.
