WISH launches search for new Chair

The Waste Industry Safety and Health (WISH) Forum has begun the search for a new Chair.

The voluntary position will see the successful candidate lead the influential industry forum, working closely with the Government, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and key sector stakeholders to identify, prioritise and resolve health, safety and welfare issues in the waste and recycling industry.

The Chair will act as the forum’s principal representative, providing independent leadership to the WISH Steering Group, guiding strategic direction and ensuring good governance.

They will also play a vital role in promoting best practice, coordinating sector-wide campaigns, and fostering collaboration across public, private, charitable and regulatory organisations.

The Forum have recently released a series of sheets covering specific items of machinery in used at waste recycling plants, including guidance on cable strippers and crocodile shears.

Chris Jones has been WISH Chair since formation

The current chair, Chris Jones, has been Chairman of WISH since its formation in 2001.

Under his leadership, WISH’s collaborative model has been adopted in Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, and the forum is now supporting the development of similar organisations in France and the Low Countries.

Alongside his WISH responsibilities, Jones is Director of Risk Management and Compliance at Cory Environmental, where he provides corporate oversight across the company’s CSR activities and devises corporate risk strategies.

WISH have invited expressions of interest for the new chair by 30 September 2025.

Prospective candidates will have the opportunity to discuss the role at the RWM conference in Birmingham on 17–18 September.
