The UK's leading universities have put out a call for postgraduate researchers to showcase their latest waste management research at this summer's annual Tackling Waste conference.

The two-day event, dubbed “Tomorrow's World for the waste management sector”, takes place at the University of Nottingham on July 6 and 7.

Under the banner of WARMNET – the network of UK universities involved in waste education and research – the conference will highlight the latest academic thinking in waste management.

Previous presentations have included the modelling of markets for recovered materials, pyrolysis treatment processes, segregation techniques, health impacts of waste management and the trading of landfill permits.

Organiser Dr Margaret Bates said: “The annual conference presents a unique opportunity for waste management researchers to showcase their research into waste minimisation, recovery, reuse and recycling of 'waste' materials and novel approaches to waste treatment.”

Tackling Waste 2006 is supported by the SITA Environmental Trust through the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme, and is open to delegates representing regulatory bodies, universities, local authorities, NGOs, government and industry.
