Waste Watch, the national organisation that promotes practical action on waste reduction, reuse and recycling has won an award for its first ever environmental report.
The organisation's report was named best small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) report in the UK Environmental Reporting category in the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants' (ACCA) sustainable reporting awards.
Barbara Herridge, executive director at Waste Watch, said: “Waste Watch is thrilled and proud to receive this recognition for its first ever environmental report – which makes it a second win in a row for Wastebusters.”
She added: “Although environmental reporting is not a legal obligation, forward-thinking companies are shrewd enough to recognise that good environmental credentials also make good business sense. As an organisation committed to encouraging others to manage resources in a more sustainable manner we need to set a good example ourselves. As we began collating the information for the report we realised that there were many areas where we could reduce our environmental impacts still further. However, this award is a recognition that even a relatively small organisation like Waste Watch can make an important contribution to sustainable working practice, and I hope that it encourages others to do the same.”
The reporting process was carried out by Waste Watch’s business consultancy Wastebusters which merged with Waste Watch last summer. Wastebusters environmental report was named best SME report in the 2000 awards.
