The French-owned waste management firm's materials recycling facility (MRF), which is at the Trent Lane industrial estate in Castle Donington near the M1, will also take recyclable material collected by Veolia on behalf of Amber Valley and High Peake borough councils and Derbyshire Dales district councils.
Speaking at the officially opening of the Castle Donington site, Tom Spaul, chief operating officer at Veolia, said: “Consumers and businesses are becoming more aware of the need to turn waste into a resource. However, it has been challenging for businesses to recycle as they sometimes have 10 different types of waste and the task of recycling can seem overwhelming.
“We are going to make it easier for our customers to recycle by offering a commingled collection service where the customer can have one bin to dispose of card, paper, plastic and cans.”
Veolia also operates a waste transfer station on the Trent Lane Industrial Estate, and, in May 2010, Leicestershire county council granted the waste management company dispensation to expand its practices at the site by allowing it to store baled material outside.
The officially opening of the Trent Lane facility occurred in the same week as Veolia broke ground on its multi-million pound mechanical biological treatment plant in Southwark, South London (see letsrecycle.com story).
