Yotta launches in-cab technology

Leamington Spa-based software and technology firm Yotta has launched a new in-cab waste management system to help crews deliver refuse collection services.

The Mayrise In-Cab uses a vehicle mounted mini-computer to integrate with the Mayrise Waste back office system – giving frontline staff access to the latest service information.

The computer offers real time messaging, reporting and event logging for crews in the field, allowing back office staff to monitor their progress.

Once logged in, the In-Cab system can also be configured to ensure crews undertake daily vehicle and equipment checks before selecting their round.

Nick Smee, chief executive of Yotta, said: “Giving frontline staff real time access to essential service information is crucial for the delivery of high profile council services such as refuse and recycling collections.

“By integrating the In-Cab solution with our back office, Mayrise Waste software crews can pick up new jobs as they are allocated, report potential issues, such as blocked streets or breakdowns, and record service problems – for example non presented bins or contamination. This information can then be shared in an easy to interpret visual way using the map backdrop.”

Eaton to supply Advetec waste digesters

Power management company Easton has started supplying Advetec Advanced Environmental Technologies with components for its thermal waste digesters.

The integration has allowed Advetec to devise control systems for its digesters, which can process over 30 tonnes of waste in a 72-hour timeframe.

The equipment is usually required by operators who handle bulk waste all year round, and Advetec claims this poses ‘multiple challenges’ for engineers.

With this in mind, the Advetec engineers decided to base the design of their new control system on Eaton automation solutions and SmartWire-DT. They also decided to use Eaton’s XV-152 touch-screen operator interface panel.

Craig Shaw, managing director at Advetec, said: “The Eaton name is recognised and respected worldwide, so our customers instantly see that we’re using top-grade products in our machines.”

Upgrade to Komptech separator

Stones, inert and light items can now be removed from a wide variety of material streams in the Komptech Hurrifex separator.

The machine incorporates a stone separator and a wind sifter, which the manufacturers claim gives it a separation rate of up to 95%. It incorporates the functions of the company’s Stonefex and the HurrikanS wind sifter.

Komptech claims that the machine could be used for applications including removal of stones and plastic film from biomass, or separating film and wood from stone fractions.

The Hurrifex is designed for a 10mm to 150mm grain, and with a consistent material flow can it deliver ‘outstanding’ separation results.

Vehicle Weighing Solutions compliant with registration regulations

Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd’s (VWS) bin-weighing and onboard weighing systems are now approved to comply with new Whole Vehicle Type Approval regulations, the company has announced.

The ruling means that manufacturers can add a VWS system to their vehicles without it requiring further testing.

VWS, which designs and manufactures its own load cells and weighing systems has received EMC (Electro Magnetic Capability) approval under ECE Regulation 10.04.

The new Whole Vehicle Type Approval regulations, which came into force on 29 October 2014, mean that refuse vehicles can no longer be registered as incomplete vehicles. As part of the vehicle approval, EMC has to be addressed for any electrical components that are added to the vehicle and that are operational when the vehicle is in motion.

Julian Glasspole, managing director, VWS said: “This approval means that body builders that used the IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval) route to register vehicles can add our weighing systems without worrying about WVTA. Our kit is already compliant.”

Petlon Polymers upgrades metal separation line

Plastics recycling firm Petlon Polymers is to upgrade its metal detection and separation equipment in a bid to increase the quality of recovered plastics it produces at its Gloucestershire plant.

The firm is installing an EZ-Tec 9100, manufactured by Eriez Magnetics Europe, to remove ferrous and non-ferrous metals from plastic waste.

The model installed on Petlon’s production lines detects and removes any ferrous, nonferrous and stainless steel particles greater than 0.5mm sphere. Petlon are upgrading the equipment to improve pre-screening and the quality of its final products.

Petlon offers a range of prime, recovered (R-Prime) and recycled materials as well as material recovery for waste products from manufacturing operations and PET.

Explaining the reason for their choice, Gavin Rees, managing director at Petlon Polymers, and James Moverley, the firm’s maintenance electrician, commented: “We’re delighted to be working with a UK manufacturer. It provides us with a responsive support at a lower cost and allows us to develop a solution that matches our requirement exactly. Due to the potential of metal components in the raw material, protection of equipment is vital and the EZ-Tec 9100 enables this at a competitive price. “Working together with Eriez has enabled us to develop an upgraded metal separator with a specially-designed reject flap which has a longer life and significantly reduces overall repair costs, and down time.”
