Croydon adds ‘reusable’ graphics to refuse vehicles

Croydon’s reusable graphics system

The London borough of Croydon has incorporated educational messages on its fleet of refuse and recycling vehicles, to inform residents of services available.

Each of the 50+ strong fleet has been fitted with a reusable graphics system, supplied by specialist vehicle graphics company Spedian.

The UK firm provides invisible frame vinyl signage for vehicles, which uses a specially developed bonding agent and offers truck graphics which do not require bolts, rivets, screws or welds.

The messages used are designed to educate and inform local residents on a range of initiatives and services available and can be easily changed, the manufacturer says. For example, the borough is currently running a campaign to raise awareness of the value of recycling and how recycled products are made into other products.

Joanna Dixon, the borough’s environmental services officer for Waste & Recycling Promotions, praised the quality of the graphics and the system’s ability to cope with the daily rigours of providing a waste and recycling service.

Ms Dixon commented: “The use of the Spedian system has been a fantastic way for us to communicate clear messages to local residents. What better way to reach the local population other than by a service which each and every resident receives.”

Mick George Ltd is expanding its fleet and has taken on two new refuse vehicles from Refuse Vehicle Solutions Ltd (RVS).

One of the vehicles is on a three-year contract hire agreement and the other vehicle, from the RVS RediTruck stock, has been purchased outright.

Lukasz Borodziuk, operations manager at Mick George Ltd, said: “We needed new trucks due to the number of new commercial waste contracts starting and we knew that RVS would provide quality vehicles, an efficient service and great support at a competitive price.”

The vehicles are both Scania P280 fitted with Olympus 23w bodies and Beta trade bin lifts. The three-year contract hire agreement includes full maintenance, which will be carried out by RVS’ specialist engineers.

Paul Brown, commercial director at RVS said: “RediTruck enables waste and recycling operators to buy a new refuse vehicle without having to wait for manufacturers’ long lead times. Customers can drive away a RediTruck with full commercial specification within days or weeks of placing an order.”
