The company, which cleans up after the event as part of its long-standing agreement with Kensington Chelsea, has shared a behind the scenes video showing the preparations leading up to the carnival, which include the removal of bins and street furniture.
It also provides a glimpse into operations involved in cleaning the streets and disposing of the heaps of rubbish that accumulate during the festivities. This can be seen below.
‘Eye opening’
Cllr Cem Kemahli, lead member for planning and public realm, said: “This footage is eye-opening and shows the scale of the operation and the preparation involved. Heartfelt appreciation goes out to the SUEZ waste collection teams and all those who put in their night-time hours to make this restoration possible.”
The Notting Hill Carnival attracts millions of people from across the world on August Bank Holiday, leaving in its wake approximately 300 tonnes of waste. SUEZ has been on clean up duty on behalf of Kensington and Chelsea Council since 1997.
‘Smooth operation’
Gary O’Hagan, SUEZ Recycling & Recovery UK contract general manager, added: “The clean-up for Notting Hill Carnival is organised over a number of months to ensure the operation runs smoothly and efficiently. SUEZ is really pleased with how our crews pulled together over the carnival weekend, and we’re happy to be able to share this behind-the-scenes footage to showcase how hard our teams work to get the streets back to normal following the festivities.”
“We’ve been responsible for the carnival clear up for the Council for many years, and we’re proud to have a tried and tested operational plan which gets the streets looking tidy for the local residents as quickly as possible. Thanks to our thorough planning and the dedication of our crews who worked throughout the night, we are able to have the streets in tip-top shape for the early morning commuters on Tuesday.”
I think the Carnival is also in Westminster.
