The French-owned group reported revenues in its waste services division – SITA – were up 18.4 per cent in the first three months of the year compared to the same period in 2000.
The improvement stems mainly from good results in its hazardous industrial waste operations and from increased activity in France and Spain.
Specific figures for the UK business were not given for the three months although business is thought to have been steady in the period. Overall Suez reported a 110 per cent increase in UK activity but this includes communications and water activities. Meanwhile, the main issue for the UK branch of SITA is the absorption of the United Waste business. Full details of how this will be achieved are still to be released by the company.
