SITA parent group reports higher revenues

Suez, the French parent company of the UK's largest waste management company SITA, today (May 2) posted figures for the first three months of 2002 which showed group revenues up 9.7% year on year to 11.6 billion Euros.

Suez, which has 190,000 employees in 130 countries, derives its revenue from three sources: energy, water and waste. Energy revenues were up 14.8%, water stable; and waste services up by 2.7% through “organic growth”.

Figures for the performance of the company's waste business in the UK are not given separately although the financial report suggests that Sita's performance in the UK is “stable”. This is against an overall report for Suez figures in the UK which show a fall in revenue of 17.6% to 972 million Euros. It should be noted that this figure covers all Suez businesses.

Commenting on its waste activities, Suez noted that SITA organic growth worldwide came to 2.7%. “Performances in France, Spain, the Netherlands and Northern Europe were satisfying, with revenue increases equal to or greater than 5%. In the other European countries, including Germany and Great Britain, activity was stable, with the exception of Belgium which experienced a decline in volumes.” Waste revenues in Europe, excluding France and Belgium, were down 1.8% to 671 million Euros.
