The scrap metal recycler operates a total of 42 metal recycling sites throughout the UK, including nine sites in the West Midlands which it acquired in May 2011 as part of the purchase of Dunn Brothers (see letsrecycle.com story).
The company handles scrap including end of life and abandoned cars, consumer goods, surplus metal from manufacturing processes, ferrous and non ferrous scrap metal, large plant and machinery and other types of metals products.
In a statement, Sims Metal Management revealed that the review would seek to maximise operational efficiency across its sites, but not at a loss of competitiveness.
Efficiency
The statement said: As with all of our global locations, we regularly undertake reviews of our operations in order to maximize operational efficiency. The UK metals recycling business is no exception. Due to the continued economic malaise in the UK economy, a small number of sites have been targeted for reposition without sacrificing our competitive position.
The UK metals recycling business will be stronger placed to compete in the current economic climate and will provide a platform for continued growth as and when more positive economic activity returns.
