Trentside currently operates a paper recycling and security shredding business from a site at Campbell Road, Stoke on Trent, and covers an area south of Manchester across to Liverpool.
Tony Watkins, commercial director of Severnside, said the company was delighted with the acquisition. “This makes a lot of sense for Severnside. We have a lot of national accounts that have north west requirements so we will now be able to extend our coverage.”
Severnside has won contracts to service national firms such as Next, Comet and Great Universal Stores, and is particularly targeting paper and card as well as back of store plastic.
Sense
Mr Watkins explained: “It makes a lot of sense for us to offer a multi-material service and collect plastics as well as card and packaging materials.”
As yet, no decision has been taken as to the materials that will be collected from Stoke on Trent. The company is considering its options for the Staffordshire site, which has a fleet of more than eight vehicles.
Severnside's move to the north west is expected to increase pressure on waste management companies who are also keen to win national contracts from the commercial sector for the collection of recyclables.
