Sector urged to review waste data compilation

Those managing and processing waste will need to review how data is recorded if they are to keep ahead of upcoming legislation, according Cyklpoint director Michael Sant.

Cyklepoint is a software built to facilitate the interaction between the various stakeholders in the waste management industry, from point of generation and collection, to recycling and disposal.

It allows users to record and monitor waste inventory levels in real-time using standard and customisable classification codes, follow waste movements with automated notifications and include labels as necessary.

Speaking with letsrecycle.com below, Michael Sant, said legislation is already in the pipeline which will mean the entire sector will need to review how it collects its waste.

Tracking

According to Defra, more 200 million tonnes of waste is produced in the UK each year but there is currently no single or comprehensive way of tracking it, with legislation relating to the transport, management and description of waste being introduced separately over the last 30 or so years.

In January 2022, the department launched a consultation on mandatory digital waste tracking, and while the results of this are still to come, Mr Sant says it is vital companies begin to look at this now.
