Across 17 of Campus Living Villages’ accommodation sites, the Salvation Army will be setting up textile donation banks and there will also be a number of collection days where students can donate items like kitchen utensils and electrical goods to be sold in Salvation Army charity shops.
Catherine Inglis, Sales Manager for Salvation Army Trading Company said: “This is a fantastic partnership for us. Students often have multiple toasters, kettles, microwaves and utensils in their halls of residences – many of which are never used. In many cases these items will get thrown away when students move out of halls. We can make sure unwanted items don’t end up in landfill. Instead we will recycle them for re-use, while raising money for a great cause at the same time.”
Alex Mayes, Corporate Responsibilities and Communities Manager at Campus Living Villages said: “We are always looking for ways in which we can reduce our impact on the environment and support local and national charities. With this partnership we achieve both – support students to recycle unwanted goods more effectively and support a highly regarded national charity.”
Over £35 million has been raised for The Salvation Army over the past five years through its reuse and recycling initiatives.
