Recovered paper official appointed to paper confederation

The recovered paper sector now has a new full time official to represent its interest at the Swindon-based Confederation of Paper Industries.

Peter Seggie has been recruited to fill the position of sector manager for the Recovered Paper Sector Body within CPI. Starting this week, he takes on responsibility for “enhancing the field of recovered paper within the CPI’s activities”.

There is expected to be a one month handover from Brian Bissett who currently runs the recovered paper side at CPI through his previous role as director of the British Recovered Paper Association, which was absorbed into the CPI late last year. Mr Bissett is to retire at the end of the month.

Mr Seggie joins from security papers business Klippan International having previously worked for specialist papermaker J R Crompton.

The CPI said that Mr Seggie has a “background in the technical aspects of recycling papers, and experience in dealing with European companies, which will bring a new dimension to the CPI knowledge centre”.

Director General at CPI, Martin Oldman, said the appointment is a positive way forward for the organisation, “Peter will bring a number of skills into this newly formed position within the CPI. It is our intention that similar roles will be created for the remaining sector bodies – corrugated, tissue and papermaking.”

Challenges
Mr Seggie faces a number of challenges within the CPI to ensure that the role of the recovered sector is not lost in the fact of mill activities.

Last month Kathy Bradley, director of external affairs, moved to reassure the recovered paper sector that its voice will not be lost in the new organisation. She said: “The four sectors have one identity which is the CPI. There are issue management groups on which all are represented. The BRPA is not there as a trade association but the identity still exists as the recovered paper sector. It is a bit like government departments – for example, they have department dinners and other special events.”
