The Scrapp mobile app has an database of over 36 million products and allows users to scan product barcodes to receive “instant, location-specific” recycling guidance.
Moreover, the app encourages users to seek recycling information for items they are unsure of, while providing seamless access to all local waste services.
Additionally, plans are underway to incorporate bin reminders into the app to further incentivise and remind users to recycle.
Collaborate
Evan Gwynne Davies, CEO of Scrapp, said: “We are excited to collaborate with Re3, aiding the residents of Bracknell Forest, Reading, and Wokingham Boroughs in achieving their waste minimisation goals. This partnership has inspired us to continue the development of our mobile app, with new and exciting features like residential bin day reminders, custom notifications, and an intuitive search feature.
“Users can scan or search their waste to receive localised recycling guidance at their fingertips. Our team is working around adding 10,000 new products every month. We firmly believe that collective, small actions can create a massive impact. Together, we can build a sustainable future where resources are valued and preserved.”
Materials
With Re3 processing over 180,000 tonnes of waste annually, recent composition analyses of residual bins have revealed 45,500 tonnes of recyclable materials being disposed of as general waste.
Furthermore, insights from WRAP’s Recycling Tracker indicate approximately 81% of households inadvertently contaminate their recycling bins, discarding an average of 5.4 items incorrectly during each collection due to lack of information or confusion.
Educate
In a joint statement re3 joint waste disposal board members commented: “We’re excited by the new recycling Scrapp app. Residents from the re3 area will have access to a unique version of the app, designed to educate and motivate everyone in our communities to recycle correctly and efficiently.
“We are pleased with how swift and responsive it is and are hopeful that this new use of technology is a way forward to help us overcome barriers to recycling as well as to reach an even wider audience.”
