Powerday buys seventh site with Economic Skips acquisition

Powerday has announced the acquisition of Bermondsey-based Economic Skips, as part of a move to further expand its London coverage.

Economic Skips operates a 7,000 metered squared site in Bermondsey, where it its services include skip hire, roll-on/roll-off containers, wheelie bins and dustcarts.

Powerday said the acquisition will allow it to “better service clients operating in the south east of London”. It will acquire all of Economic Skips’ vehicles, as well the site.

Liam Kearney, joint managing director at Powerday, said: “We are delighted to have completed the acquisition of Economic Skips Limited, which will further reinforce our presence and commitment to our clients in the southeast.

“In addition to its extensive fleet and loyal employees, the addition of the company’s site in Bermondsey will enable us to provide an even more efficient, compliant and responsible waste management and recycling service to businesses across the capital, reducing waste miles and minimising transport emissions which is a key driver of our recently published Scope 1 Carbon Strategy.

“We are very much looking forward to this next stage in our strategic business growth plan which now also involves further developing the legacy and story of Economic Skips Limited.”

Economic Skips says on its website that has been providing professional waste management solutions for businesses in Greater London since the early 1970’s.

The acquisition of the business “strengthens Powerday’s coverage of London and marks the next step in its ambitious strategic growth plans”.

The move will also expand its portfolio to seven sites. This is made up of material recycling facilities in Willesden Junction and Enfield, with transfer stations in Bermondsey, Brixton, Canning Town, Heathrow and Wimbledon. Additionally, Powerday will now operate close to 200 vehicles across London and the surrounding counties.

In addition to its fleet, employees and the site in Bermondsey, Economic Skips’ environmental credentials were a huge part of its appeal for Powerday, according to  Edward Crossan, chief executive of Powerday, who said: “Economic Skips is one of the leading players in London’s waste management sector, working to ensure that waste from businesses large and small is disposed of in an economical, safe and responsible way.
