Plastic packaging waste exporter’s suspension lifted

The Environment Agency has reinstated accreditation under the PRN system for plastic packaging waste exporter Roydon Resource Recovery, it confirmed today.

This comes just five days after the Agency first suspended the company’s exporter accreditation, prohibiting it from issuing packaging recycling evidence on plastic exported for processing.

PRNs can be sold as evidence of recycling

Full details of the reason for the suspension have not been stated.

Suspension

On Friday, the Agency confirmed it had suspended the export accreditation for Roydon Resource Recovery Ltd (see letsrecycle.com story).

At the time, in a letter to the packaging waste sector, including exporters, compliance schemes and reprocessors, and with reference to the company, the Agency said: “Evidence should not be issued on packaging exported or received for reprocessing during a period of suspension.”

However, in a subsequent notice issued today (27 November), the Agency confirmed that the suspension no longer applies.

Accreditation

According to its website, Manchester-based waste management company Roydon Resource Recovery is responsible for managing the recycling of waste material, including plastics, paper, cardboard, metal and WEEE in the UK and abroad.

Accreditation under the packaging waste system means that exporters of packaging waste, such as plastics for recycling, are eligible to raise export PRNs. These can be sold as evidence of recycling.
