Munro to head up marketing at Reconomy
Outsourced waste management and recycling services provider, Reconomy, has announced the appointment of Tony Munro into the position of marketing director.
Within this newly created role, said Reconomy, Mr Munro will take overall responsibility for all internal and external marketing deliverables across Reconomy’s group of companies. And, “providing a strong focus on developing Reconomy’s digital marketing strategies, Tony will also support the company’s ongoing programme of tech-enablement for the benefit of its customers.”
Mr Munro has over 14 years of experience working in marketing roles within the construction industry, principally at builders’ merchants, Jewson, where he worked for 10 years, primarily as Marketing Services Director.
Commenting on his appointment, Tony Munro said: “I’m delighted to be joining such a great team, at a company with such exciting times ahead, in a very important sector. Reconomy’s focus on innovation and new technology to deliver the best possible customer experience is a real competitive advantage. Stevenson takes the lead at Hamilton
Musselburgh-based Hamilton Waste & Recycling has appointed Robin Stevenson as Managing Director.
The newly-created role will see Mr Stevenson assume responsibility for the company’s day-to-day operations and the continued growth of its commercial and industrial division in Edinburgh and the surrounding area. He is to work closely alongside the company’s owners, David and Keir Hamilton, who are to remain actively involved in the business.
Prior to joining Hamilton, Robin has held senior roles with companies including Shanks Group and Suez. Most recently, he was managing director of the William Tracey Group’s non-hazardous waste division.
Commenting on the appointment, David Hamilton said: “Robin’s appointment marks an important point in our plans for continued growth and development. His experience in providing blue-chip customers with environmentally and commercially sustainable recycling and resource management solutions will be invaluable in the expansion of our commercial and industrial business.”

New recruits for Lorax Compliance
Environmental expert Lorax Compliance is welcoming three new recruits following what it calls ‘a period of sustained business growth’.
Wendy Aston joins the team as customer account manager from the home entertainment industry. Áine Whelan, a recruit from the welfare to work sector, also takes up an account manager position. The pair are joined by junior developer, Eddie Page.
The new account managers, said the company, will work closely with account manager Danielle Stephenson, who joined Lorax in July 2017. The company isn’t stopping there, however, and is currently recruiting for four additional roles in sales and development.
Lorax provides reporting software and consultancy on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and waste recycling directives including packaging, WEEE, batteries, deposits and textiles.
Vanden’s Carapetis heads to UK as market changes
One of the founders of Vanden has relocated to the UK reflecting what the company sees as the changing nature of the plastic recycling market.
Australia-born John Carapetis founded Vanden with fellow director Damien van Leuven in 2005 and was previously operating from Vanden’s offices in Hong Kong and then Malaysia.
The company said Mr Carapetis moving to the UK is a “continuation of Vanden’s long-term plan to add real value to UK waste plastics. This started several years ago with the establishment of a European and UK customer base followed by entry into the reprocessing arena in 2017. Having one of the Group leadership team move to the UK underlines the importance of this territory and the fundamental changes in global recycling markets. John will be based at the company’s Peterborough facility.”
Mr Carapetis said: “Vanden has gone from a trading business with processing capacity to a processing business with trading expertise.
“There is infinite opportunity in the UK recycling market, and this has been helped by the China ban and closure or restrictions of other Asian countries. We are creating a high quality plastic infeed for reuse back into the supply chain.”
Mr Carapetis will remain Vanden’s chief trading officer and will manage the commercial teams in the UK elsewhere.”
