Partnerships attract funding, says Shropshire

The Shropshire Waste Partnership has said that working in partnerships can help attract government funding for waste initiatives.

The SWP is a formal strategic partnership of Shropshire county council, Bridgnorth district council, North Shropshire district council, Oswestry borough council and South Shropshire district council.

” Working in a partnership has already achieved big benefits for the councils and local residents “
– Frank Mulgrew

This week Shropshire held its third annual conference, and at the event Frank Mulgrew – executive officer with Shropshire waste partnership explained the advantages that can be achieved when council authorities and its districts work in partnerships.

He explained: “Working in a partnership has already achieved big benefits for the councils and local residents.

“Over the last two years we have attracted over 2.3 million of government funding, which has greatly helped with the development of recycling facilities at people's homes and across the county, and has helped avoid having to fund this money from Council Tax,” he added.

The Shropshire Waste Partnership has also been granted 35.8 million of Private Finance Initiative credits to help provide a long-term waste management contract for the county. The contract is set to start on April 1 2007.
