North Wales launches public waste consultation website

North Wales has launched a public consultation website for its regional waste strategy.

North Wales is the first of the three regions in Wales to launch its information online. South East and South West Wales are expected to follow suit with their own websites in the next two to three weeks.

The North Wales website has been produced by Denbighshire county council, the coordinating authority for the north region. Council spokesman Gareth Jones explained: “We consider it to be a fundamental consultation tool in a regional context. Everything we have produced to date is available for anyone to see.”

Included on the website are the minutes to all meetings, reports, the draft regional waste plan, maps of the area and contact information. Electronic feedback forms are also available on the bi-lingual website for the public to respond to the proposals in the draft waste plan. Responses will be logged and summarised by Denbighshire county council.

The Welsh Assembly has said the three regional waste plans should be completed and agreed by November 2003. The North Wales strategy is due to be release in June or July 2003, Mr Jones said, with a two-month consultation with the public, industry and pressure groups.
