Nominees for Wood Recycling Awards 2013 revealed

Countrystyle Group, Hadfield Wood Recyclers, Community Wood Recycling and SITA UK are among nominees for the upcoming annual Wood Recycling Association Awards, which take place in Warwickshire next week (November 20).

The Wood Recycling Association Awards celebrate excellence, innovation and success in the wood recycling industry.

The only awards ceremony dedicated to wood recycling, winners in the categories of best partnership, site manager or team of the year and quality product of the year will be presented at a luncheon at Coombe Abbey Hotel on November 20 2013.

The awards are open to Wood Recyclers Association (WRA) members, board mills, recyclers, energy companies, individuals, local authorities, the community sector and all those who work within the field of wood recycling and affiliated industries.

Those to receive a nod for awards include: Community Wood Recyclings national builders collection scheme; Hadfield Wood Recyclers new poultry bedding product; employees at Countrystyle Groups Ridham wood processing facility in Kent; as well as biomass plants under development by partnerships in both Fife and Plymouth.

The award categories and nominees are:

Best Partnership, sponsored by A Jansen BV

  • National Builders Collection Scheme: a partnership between Community Wood Recycling and 25 independent social enterprises offering a wood-waste collection service to UK builders.
  • O-Gen Plymtrek: The partnership between MITIE/Utilyx, O-Gen UK and Una Group is developing a biomass plant near Plymouth that will convert 40,000 tonnes of waste wood into renewable heat and power each year.
  • SITA UK and RWE npower renewable: A contract between the two will see SITA UK supply 50% (c.200,000 tonnes) of the recovered wood feedstock to RWEs 250 million biomass combined heat and power plant, currently under development in Fife.
