MyGroup and Harrods expand cosmetics recycling scheme

Leeds-based waste management company MyGroup (formerly Mytum & Selby Waste Recycling) and luxury retailer Harrods have extended their cosmetics recycling scheme across five locations in the UK.

MYGroup operates take-back schemes with pharmacy chain Boots and cosmetics, skin care, and perfume company The Body Shop

This follows a trial scheme which ran between January-March 2023 at Harrods’ ‘H Beauty’ store in Milton Keynes.

As part of the scheme, MYGroup has provided recycling bins where customers can return their used cosmetic products in the store. “The deposited items will then be recycled at MYGroup’s own dedicated facility in Hull,” the company said.

The company says its £2 million Hull remanufacturing facility “turns unusable plastics into new products” its ReFactory brand, which makes products such as plant pots and benches.

The company was also accredited by the Environment Agency to generate packaging recovery notes in 2022 (see letsrecycle.com story).

Mia Collins, director of buying – beauty at Harrods, said: “Launching the H beauty recycling scheme’s second phase on a wider scale stands as a pinnacle for Harrods and H beauty, emphasising our dedication to sustainable practices. MyBeauty Recycle & Reward scheme resonates with our loyal customers who are passionate about embracing a more eco-conscious lifestyle.”
