The new plant, which is to be created by Urban Forest Ltd at Newry in County Down, has been awarded a total of 500,000 under WRAP's competition to accelerate investment in new wood reprocessing capacity.
” Urban Forest will begin trading in March next year, once the plant is up and running “
– Patrick Durkan, Urban Forest
According to Urban Forest, a new company created specifically for this project, it is set to be the first dedicated facility in Ireland for the manufacturing of a variety of recycled wood products, such as bedding for horses and litter for poultry.
Capacity
The plant, which has a total value of 2 million, is set to have a reprocessing capacity of almost 35,000 tonnes of waste wood a year once it is completed. Patrick Durkan of Urban Forest told letsrecycle.com that the plant would begin operation in March of next year.
He said: “Urban Forest is a subsidiary of Allclear Environmental. Allclear has been recycling small amounts of wood into added value products but decided that a specific business was needed for this.
“Urban Forest will begin trading in March next year, once the plant is up and running. All wood that is recycled by Allclear will be moved over to Urban Forest at that point,” he added.
End products
Mr Durkan also said that by offering small amounts of the animal bedding product – which has been named Allbed – now, the company has been able to identify end products for the material in advance of the new plant beginning reprocessing.
