Nathan’s takes Masters of Waste Scotland crown

A four-man team from Falkirk-based textile recycler Nathan’s Wastesavers scooped the first ever Masters of Waste Scotland crown on a glorious day at Archerfield Links, North Berwick last Thursday (July 30).

Around 40 golfers took part in the one day-tournament at the prestigious course just outside of Edinburgh, organised by letsrecycle.com in partnership with equipment supplier Blue Scotland.

Players from some of the biggest names in the Scottish waste industry took part in the competition including Blue Group, William Tracey, Biffa, Blue (Fuchs), Smart Solutions, Nathan’s Wastesavers, Lowmac, Taylors, Viridor, Chloros Envionmental and NWH.

Players were treated to a hearty breakfast before heading out to practice their skills on the driving range and putting green. The first team left the tee at 11am with a fantastic shot from Blue Group Scotland to set the tone for the day.

A tasty three course dinner was served after play, and Bill Copeland provided the after dinner entertainment and trophy presentation.

Winners

The four man team of Peter Page, Jim Stewart, Jim Marshall and Trevor Elliot from Nathan’s ended the day’s proceedings with 94 points to take home the first every Masters of Waste Scotland trophy, seeing off competition from Blue Group Scotland’s team of Allan Kane, Rowan Carey, Kenny Smith and Barry McCarron in second place on 86 points.

A second team from Blue Group Scotland, made up of Austin Carey, Alistair Rees, Craig Williams and Robin Baird made up the top three, having finished with a total of 84 points.

Every single player donated to the chosen charity, Aberlour, on the 13th hole where there was the opportunity to win a sleeve of balls if you hit the green supplied by Taylor Bins.

Nathan’s also had success on the singles front, with finance director Nathan Elliot winning the individual prize with a total of 40 points, followed by his colleague Jim Stewart in second place with 36 points. Sam Lowrie of Biffa finished in third place with a score of 34 points.

Elsewhere Malcolm Tyczynski won the longest drive competition, sponsored by Ceris Burns, with a powerful effort on the fifth hole. Allan Kane won the nearest the pin accolade, sponsored by Smart Solutions, for his pinpoint accuracy on hole seven.

Speaking after the event letsrecycle.com commercial director Rob Mowat, said: “It was fantastic to see all those that joined us for our inaugural Scottish event, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive so keep your eyes peeled for the date for next year’s event which will be released soon.“
