LARAC Awards deadline extended

The deadline for entries to the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee’s (LARAC) prestigious 13th awards has been extended to 6 August.

(l-r) Lee Marshall, LARAC; Victoria Burrell and John Shannon from Durham county council, winner of Best waste Minimisation or Prevention Project; Wayne Copley of sponsor REPIC; and LARAC chair, Carole Taylor

The awards will be held on the first night of the LARAC’s annual conference, to take place on 6 and 7 October at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham.

LARAC members can enter any of the six awards categories: best communications campaign of the year; best partnership award; best team of the year; best waste minimisation or prevention project; best new idea; and outstanding contribution to recycling.

Last year, the event was held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. It celebrated a variety of initiatives undertaken by LARAC members, such as Bristol’s ‘Litter Hurts’ campaign and Dudley metropolitan borough council’s ‘Defeating Dudley’s Mattress Mountain’ initiative.

Those interested in entering this year’s awards should visit here.

Conference

Formed in 1985, LARAC is the organisation representing local authority recycling officers and those working in similar or related posts.

The conference will attract more than 400 visitors including 170 different authorities for two days of expert presentations, practical workshops and “second-to-none” networking.

The awards ceremony allows visitors to revel in the successes of different local authorities over the past year.
